In addition to authoring the state licensing textbook for Florida
title agents, Karen has created more than 250 hours of continuing education
for the industry, as well as lecturing nationally on business management,
regulatory issues, professional ethics, and professional job skills.
For years, Karen’s most notable contribution to the overall settlement
services industry was the FutureFocus work she pioneered in 1995. Her
research in generational, technological, business, and socio-economic
trends, coupled with in-depth industry knowledge culminated in Karen’s
ability to predict FutureFocus trends for those employed within the
settlement services industry (real estate, mortgage, and title insurance).
A self-appointed consumer and micro-business advocate, Karen continues
to dedicate her efforts to championing the rights of consumers and creating
a level playing field within the settlement services industry through
education. To that end, in 2005, she submitted a Position Paper entitled
Economic Impact of Proposed Legislation on Micro-Business Settlement
Services Providers in response to proposed regulatory (RESPA) reform,
and continues to lecture on the subject throughout the country.
Karen’s educational contribution to the title insurance industry
is unmatched throughout the country. When taking into account the numerous
industry textbooks she has written, along with her National Lecture
series, the educational programs and products she has collaborated on
with the American Land Title Association and many state title associations,
the state pre-licensing programs she has developed and, now, the new
“Friendly” Agency Audit
and Agency Retainer Program,
it is easy to see why she has become the leading title insurance educator
in the United States. Despite her many accomplishments and the continued
accolades she receives from thousands of students and readers of her
textbooks (retail sales of her many textbooks broke the 50,000 mark
in 2005), Karen has set her sights on an even bigger goal – the creation
of a National Title Insurance Certification Program which can easily
be adopted by state regulatory agencies and/or state title associations,
respectively, for state licensing and/or industry certification.
